Adding new account with same (domain) name to Mac OS

If you have performed a Tenant to Tenant migration, you are likely aware of the challenges involved. After migrating the same domain, creating identical users, and transferring their data, users may encounter issues when attempting to create a new account on their Mac due to the old account being cached with the same name. Even uninstalling the application will not resolve this issue.

Here is a concise guide to address this problem:

  • Delete the old account from all locations (Microsoft apps, legacy apps).
  • Navigate to Finder > Go > Applications and open the list of applications.
  • Locate OneDrive, right-click, and select “Show Package Contents.”
  • Navigate to Contents > Resources and find ResetOneDriveApp.command.
  • Run ResetOneDriveApp.command and wait for it to complete.
  • Add your new account to the OneDrive for Business app.
  • Subsequently, add your account to Outlook and Teams.
  • Finally, add your new account to all other Office apps.

Please note that the order of these steps is crucial. If not followed correctly, some data may still be pulled from the cache, requiring you to start the process from the beginning.
